SUSTAINABILITY
Environmentally Sustainable Design
Heritage Lanes was designed to meet ambitious sustainable building targets and deliver a positive impact for the environment and Australia’s future. We wanted to show that sustainable building construction was possible by becoming the most sustainable building in Brisbane.
As the development progressed, the precinct exceeded its original targets. Now, not only is it one of the most sustainable commercial buildings in Brisbane, it’s also one of the most sustainable buildings in Australia.
One of the key sustainable building and design practices implemented was the reuse of the existing two-storey heritage building. Meanwhile, the tower construction used a lower carbon concrete made with 70% recycled water and 89% recycled steel content. 90% of construction waste has been recycled and water saving features include the reuse of rainwater for cooling towers and irrigation, with 100 kilolitres of storage on site.
- Lower carbon concrete using 70% recycled water
- Reinforcement materials made from 89% recycled steel
- 90% of construction waste diverted from landfill
- Smart water systems that reuse captured rainwater from cooling towers and irrigation, supported by 100 kilolitres of onsite storage
- 129 kW solar PV system on the roof
- 18 x recycling waste streams (with on-site sorting facilities)
- Inc. a HDPE shredded
- Condensate capture water reuse tank for irrigation
- Fully electric commercial tower
These choices demonstrate our commitment to building responsibly and paving the way toward a cleaner, greener future for Brisbane.
